LEATHER SADDLE BAGS

Article by Darren Pace

If you own a Harley Davidson motorcycle, it is important to know how to choose leather motorcycle saddlebags for your particular model. Individuals that drive Harley Davidson motorcycles know and understand the importance of quality, luxury, style, and appeal. They understand that riding a bike is more than just an experience; it is a way of life. They value items that are custom made and exquisitely created to accommodate them as far as their mode of transportation is concerned. If you own a Harley, it is important to outfit your bike with not only the highest quality accessories, but also the most appealing. If you are shopping for motorcycle saddlebags that are composed of leather, it is important to ensure that you know how to choose only those that are the highest quality and display the highest level of distinction.

If you are shopping for leather motorcycle saddlebags for your Harley, it is important to decide which type of leather is most appropriate for your needs and displays your unique style. While color is an important consideration, most motorcycle saddlebags are black, gray or brown. The leather associated with the saddlebags that you choose to purchase will heavily determine the quality associated with the product. Seeing that Harley Davidson motorcycles are considered to be built in a superior manner and the name is typically associated with high standards among those that ride motorcycles, it is absolutely imperative to select saddlebags that reflect the same level of superiority and respect in the motorcycle community. Therefore, it is important to opt for products composed of buffalo leather, ostrich leather, and even inexpensive black leather models.

The next factor that must be heavily considered is the amount of time that you have to take care of the saddlebags that you choose, as well as the type of care that is required to keep the leather looking fresh and beautiful. When you have a leather motorcycle accessory, you should count on having to clean the product, condition the leather, polish the leather, and appropriately protecting the leather. Motorcycle saddlebags are not only subjected to environmental conditions such as rain, sleet, and snow, but also road conditions such as oil, sand, clay, dirt, and other types of debris. When leather motorcycle saddlebags are exposed to these elements on a regular basis, it can lead to a dull, dirty appearance. If you want to engage in minimal maintenance, it is best to opt for synthetic leather that can be cleaned easily. If you do not mind spending time maintaining the bags, you should opt for high quality leather.

In addition to the type of leather and the care it requires, it is also important to ensure that you consider the overall design of the bag. There are many different types available. In order to select the most appropriate model, you should consider the size of your motorcycle, the amount of room that you have available, as well as what appeals to your natural tastes. Examples of popular designs include the slanted design, throw over models, and a standard side bag. You must also consider the style of bike that you have as well as the amount of space that you need to obtain from the saddlebags that you purchase. By taking the factors in this guide into consideration, you will be able to choose the best leather motorcycle saddlebags for your needs.

Most vacations tend to get boring after a while. How many times can you go to same places and enjoy the same views, stay in the same place and still enjoy it all? Not too many times. But does that mean you should stay home instead? Not all, just take your boring vacation and spice it up with motorcycle touring.

It is guaranteed to make you feel like a free bird, with the wind rushing past you and the feeling of being closer to the open outdoors. You will enjoy the feeling of leaving all your troubles behind. It is an amazing way to de-stress and relax. Just take a Harley and ride out into the open. You will never regret it.

Every such trip requires a bit of preparation and planning. A very important part is to keep your belongings safe while you’re on vacation. Usually we can buy containers and locks to keep our belongings safe during a vacation. There’s no telling when an accident might happen, so why even take the risk. Make sure that your prized possessions are secure.

During a normal, boring vacation, it is easy to protect them. Especially, when you are flying or taking a car. But for life on the open road onboard your bike, things need to be a little different. You can’t just carry a suitcase as usual. Some riders choose to take a backpack and strap it on to their shoulders. But this is risky because it might get caught in something in case of an accident. Tying things to the bike is an even worse idea. It will cause damage to your belongings, your bike and you if there is an accident.

To stay safe and secure, you can always opt for motorcycle saddlebags. They may not be the cheapest option available but they are the best things you can get to protect your stuff from getting damaged while traveling on a bike.

When using saddlebags, you should always make sure that it is properly strapped on to your bike. Make it so that it doesn’t get into your way while riding. This will ensure that you do not lose control of your ride and crash.

Saddlebags should be durable and able to withstand rough use. They are made out of many different tough materials, but leather is common because of its association with bikers. These stylish leather bags not only look good, but they are also very tough and last really long. For example, Road king saddlebags are very popular with bikers for their style and quality.

With every form of travel, comes its own set of risks. Life may be good on the open road, sitting on your Harley, but it also has its fair share of dangers.

• Make sure you are carrying important medical supplies that you might need.• Always carry first aid in your saddlebag.• When traveling, it is always a good idea to carry a list of all the things you are carrying so that you can quickly check if anything is missing. • Also make sure to write down your identity information, emergency contact numbers and important medical information such as blood group in a safe place, which can be found easily in case of an accident.

Protection from all possible dangers should be your top priority.

harley saddlebags question by Dan: Help me with my Harley saddlebags please!?
I purchased stock Heritage bags for my 94 at a good price. I then found the mounting brackets. All I needed was the bolts and grommets. I went to a local HD dealer and they wanted over $ 20 for EACH bolt! It was going to cost me more for bolts and nuts than I spent on the bags! I intend to use the factory brackets and bags and just get some bolts from a hardware store. I need some idea of measurements though. How far from the fender does the brackets set? I know there is a spacer of some sort to put them away, but I’m not sure how far to do that. Any help or advice would be welcomed!
Thanks

My advice. Don’t skimp on the docking hardware. Do you want them to be rigid or detachable? if they are going to be rigid mounted then great, you can use ugly hardware hardware and it will be hidden just get the right grade of bolt. grade 8 oh and by the way every bike is a little bit different on bolt length because of sissy bars, turn signal relocation kits, etc… so your going to have to get down there and measure or get a bolt that is too long and cut it down as you need. remember you will have to use nuts on the inside of the fender. The best choice is go back to your dealer or go on line to “cycle visions” and look at there bare back kits. It is a detachable kit, and they work great. they are expensive but then again what did you pay for the bike?

They come in lots of different shapes and sizes, and can be mounted in several places on the motorcycle. When you take a journey, or ride on a motorcycle, you'll be presented with a few options. Exactly how much equipment do you take with you that you think you will need afterward...

Nowadays you will find a variety of good motorcycle accessories. You can purchase most of these items over the Internet. While motorcycle dealers will offer you high-priced accessories, you can buy most of the accessories from online auction shop.

Some motorcycle accessories, which are important for your motorcycle, are windshield, engine guards, sissy bar, luggage rack, and saddlebags. You may have come across the problem of wind and draft from the large vehicles during your ride. A good windshield will deflect the airflow from the large vehicles around the sides of your bike. While making a pick for motorcycle windshield you should have the proper knowledge and know, which one will best suit you. It is recommended that the windshield height should not be more than your eye’s level. Some windshields also allow you to hold a cup of coffee between sidebars and a windshield-but do not let the coffee spill over!

A set of engine guards is also a useful motorcycle accessory. Not only does it add an extra safety feature to your bike but also gives extra chrome to your bike. In case of any accident that might occur and cause your bike to fall, engine guards will protect your legs from getting broken as well as protect your bike from getting damaged.

Another good accessory is sissy bar. It not only gives an improved look to your bike but also, like engine guards, adds additional safety feature to your bike. Sissy bars provide a support from the backside to the passengers sitting behind you. If you are not carrying passengers, a sissy bar will provide support to carry cargo. All you need to do is to place your cargo inside cargo net and strap it firmly to sissy bar. Sissy bar is especially helpful in carrying cargo if you do not have saddlebags.

Along with sissy bars, you should also consider adding luggage rack to your motorcycle. This is a recommended motorcycle accessory especially if you go on longer trips. You can place your bag in the luggage rack whenever going to work. All that is required from you is to place your items in bungee cords or cargo net and strap it to the luggage rack.

Other motorcycle accessories that you should consider buying are saddlebags and cargo storage systems. There are many items in accessories that will come handy during a ride. In addition, you can get different kinds of leather bags for your motorcycle from online websites. You should also check for new exhaust system for your bike.

As you see there are a number of different accessories that you can buy for your motorcycle. Before spending any money, you should make sure to search Internet for all available options. You should primarily opt for those motorcycle accessories that are best for your motorcycle in terms of safety and necessity. After that, you should move towards buying those items that are more of a fashion statement. Always remember that from wherever you buy make sure that it is a reputable dealer in motorcycle accessories.

Below is a guideline for determining which set of saddlebags will fit on your bike. It works in most cases, but not all.

You will need a ruler or measuring tape.

Please go to your bike and take the following measurements

1. Take a side to side measurement: Measure side to side, from the back of the saddle, (riders position) to the arm of the directional signal, you’ll need to compare this measurement with our length measurements of the desired saddlebag. This measurement should be greater than the bags length. (See image below for reference)

2. Take a top to bottom measurement. Measure from the bottom of the seat pad to the top of the exhaust pipe as a reference. This measurement must be at least 1″ inch greater than the height of the desired saddlebags. (See image below for reference)

C. Use the measurements taken to provide a guideline in determining what saddlebags will fit your motorcycle.
